When it comes to print marketing, there are a range of print types to choose from. Litho printing, digital printing and screen printing offer different advantages depending on what you’re aiming to achieve, and your budget. Let’s take a look at the differences between each method and how you can choose the best one for your retail or brand campaigns.
Litho printing
Litho printing is a great option if you’re looking for high-quality, high-volume prints. This method involves lasering images onto metal plates, which are then transferred onto paper or card to create prints. It’s a great solution for large print runs as it’s cost-effective and quick, but can be expensive if you have smaller runs or require multiple images. If your print project is likely to benefit from the extra detail that litho offers, then this might be the right choice for you.
Digital printing
Digital printing gives you the freedom to quickly produce short run prints with no plate charges – perfect for quickly creating point-of-sale materials, flyers, posters and more. Digital printing can offer high-quality results that are comparable to litho prints in terms of quality but the printing process is much slower than litho. Digital printing is also great if you need variable data such as customer names or addresses, or multiple versions. Digital printing also allows for printing on a much wider range of materials.
Screen printing
Screen printing is ideal if you want long-lasting prints with vibrant colours that won't fade over time. Although the upfront costs of screen printing are higher than digital methods due to the setup costs associated with creating screens for each colour printed, it’s often much more cost-effective if you require large quantities of prints with multiple colours. Screen printing is an effective way of producing special colours that aren't achievablewithin the digital printing process such as metallics, fluorescents and very bright colours. Screen printing also allows for textured effects which makes it great for luxury products such as product packaging or gift boxes, where texture adds an extra level of sophistication.
